Day 7, No. 7. Tommy Helm

Tattoo Nightmares Tommy HelmHAIRCUT 100: Day 7, No. 7. Tommy Helm: The nicest guy in the celebrity tattoo universe. Owner of Empire State Studio, NY, presenter of Tattoo Nightmares on Spike TV, and finalist of the first season of Ink Master (just losing, very graciously, to Shane O’Neill), Tommy started out as a punk graffiti artist, decorating jackets and experimenting with oils. After graduating from F.I.T. New York College of Art, Tommy, according to the Empire State website, ‘decided the corporate world was not for him.’ Legend has it that he was inspired to get a tattoo by an old biker name of ‘Florida Frank,’ and the rest, as they say, is history… His first tat as an artist was a Misfits logo, which he did in the kitchen at a party sixteen years ago; now Tommy’s bold use of colour and attention to detail across styles had made him an industry ledge. ‘I just started experimenting with oils with hopes to become good with them.’
